Congregational Meeting January 18th

1 Peter 2:9…"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."

The Administrative Board and Elder Board are calling the church together for a very important information update meeting, Sunday, January 18, 2009, following the service.

The members of the boards have had the opportunity to look back over the past years, to see how God has provided, how He has maintained and sustained this community of faith and the ministries entrusted to us. That look back brings us to the present. The state of the economy, the effect of the downturn of finances nationwide, has us looking at the budget, the ministries, and the overall expenses with a magnifying glass.

And we need everyone to know just where it is we find ourselves in regard to these matters, and to have everyone praying, asking questions, and offering help in an informed manner.

We are at a critical stage in the life of Holy Cross Church, at a crossroads…and we all need wisdom and discernment as we go forward.

Please make note of the scheduled January 18th meeting…effort will be made to keep the meeting succinct and over in an hour or less. YOUR presence and participation are needed and requested.

Thank you so much for your prayerful consideration of this matter. We will look forward to seeing you there.

New Studies begin at Holy Cross

Want to learn more? This September, Holy Cross Church kicked off its exciting new fall programs. These offerings focus on families, school age children, and those who want to deepen their personal worship and discipleship.

Our uplifting family worship begins each Sunday at 10 AM. Pastor Knecht will continue his new seven part Sermon Series focusing on connecting with God, and connecting with others. Starting the series with a discussion on Prayer, he laid out the basis for a great foundation. Each week, the series will expand to include seven words of discipleship including; prayer, worship, the bible, service, relationships, giving, and being a witness.

For school age children, Children’s Coordinator, Terri Dionisio, recently outlined the exciting new Sunday school curriculum. “Our desire, at each age level, is to empower and support parents by providing sound biblically based material to share and discuss with their children.” Each week, while the adults are worshiping, the children assemble in the Holy Cross Christian Nursery School. The new program teaches preschool - 6th grade. The biblical teaching is built around the three basic truths of; wisdom, faith, and friendship.

For Preschoolers - age 5, they receive a key concept each month engaging their 5 senses, learning about God, love and Jesus. The K - 4th grades experience fun small group activities, exciting large group worship and prayer, and creative ‘age specific’ gatherings that help make the connection on how the day’s topic relate to them. The 5th and 6th grades meet together and work at their level on the same topic as the sermon. The teachers help them to navigate being a "tween" in today’s culture. These new programs also challenge children to learn core virtues and memory verses.

Want to personally learn more? Starting on September 24th, each Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM, and Thursday nights at 7:30 PM, adults will meet to worship and start discipleship studies. We encourage members and friends to join this study. Come to fellowship with other believers and to challenge and grow your faith.

All these exciting programs take place at 639 Mountain Ave., in Springfield, NJ. Have any questions? Please call the office at 973-379-4525 and find out where you can continue to learn more! Holy Cross is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
